Sarva Shakti Kali Temple began not as a grand structure, but as a humble home shrine—simple, intimate, and filled with devotion. What started as a sacred space within our home has, through divine grace, grown into a spiritual sanctuary, a place of refuge, and a guiding light for hundreds of Shakti devotees across the greater Johannesburg region. From 2010, our home shrine was lovingly opened to a small circle of friends and family. As devotion grew and more souls were drawn to the presence of the Divine Mother, the need for space increased. In early 2014, the shrine was moved from inside our home to the backyard so that prayer ceremonies could accommodate the growing number of devotees. This became the first Shakti temple in Johannesburg South, situated at 45 George Street, Rosettenville—the home of Guruji’s parents, whose unwavering support, sacrifice, and open hearts allowed their home to become a place of healing and hope for the community.

With humble means, a simple 3m x 3m structure of wood and iron, asbestos walls, and a zinc roof was erected. Though modest, it stood as the sacred abode of our Divine Mother Kali, along with the other deities worshipped in our temple—proof that devotion, not grandeur, is what sanctifies a space. In 2021, Guruji came across a 1.5m granite Amman Murti and felt a deep calling to bring Her home. With only two weeks to raise the funds, the temple community united in faith and effort, yet by the deadline had managed to raise only half the required amount. Two days before payment was due, after completing his morning prayers, Guruji surrendered to the Divine Mother, saying, “Amma, if this Murti is meant to come to Your home, then by Your grace, everything will fall into place.”

That very day, divine grace manifested. Guruji received a call from a kind and selfless soul who had seen the appeal. Upon learning that only half the funds had been raised, this devotee made an extraordinary gesture—offering to sponsor the entire amount, as an act of devotion in the name of his young son. This moment remains a powerful reminder of the living grace of the Divine Mother and the compassion She inspires through Her children. When the Murti arrived, it was discovered that She weighed over one ton—far more than the existing structure could support. Once again, divine planning prevailed. The funds initially raised by the devotees were used to fully renovate the temple, creating a solid foundation strong enough to support the Murti. Thus, the current 3m x 3m temple was lovingly rebuilt—strong in structure and even stronger in faith. Since 2014, the temple has grown steadily, becoming a beacon of Shakti worship in Johannesburg South. With the grace of the Divine Mother and the support of the community, the number of devotees continues to grow year after year.

Today, space—both within the temple and outside—has become a challenge, including parking and shelter for the growing congregation. With humility and hope, we now aspire to expand by securing a larger piece of land to build a temple that can accommodate all devotees who seek the blessings of the Divine Mother. While Sarva Shakti Kali Temple began with Kali as the presiding deity, our spiritual observances have grown to include major festivals such as the annual Kali Pūjā, Mariamman Garagam Pūjā, Navaratri Durga Pūjā, and the Hanuman Jhanda Pūjā—each celebrated with devotion, unity, and gratitude. Above all, this temple stands as a testament to divine grace, community sacrifice, and unwavering faith. We offer our heartfelt gratitude to the Divine Mother, our Gurus, Guruji’s family, and every devotee whose love and support have allowed Sarva Shakti Kali Temple to grow from a humble home shrine into a sacred spiritual home for many.
